Tucked into the historic Malay enclave of Kampung Baru, a stone’s throw from Kuala Lumpur’s glittering skyscrapers, this Ramadan bazaar is where tradition and flavor collide. This bazaar, locally known as pasar ramadan (param), located along Jalan Raja Alang, the market pulses with energy as vendors fire up grills, stir pots of sup gearbox (beef bone marrow soup), and stack vibrant kuih (traditional sweets) into pyramids. This is Malay culinary heritage, unfiltered and unapologetic.
Each year this lively bazaar transforms into a culinary sanctuary where locals and visitors gather to break their fast with a diverse range of iftar treats. Stroll through narrow lanes alive with the sizzle of satay skewers drenched in rich peanut sauce and the comforting warmth of bubur lambuk. The aroma of murtabak, a savory stuffed pancake filled with spiced minced meat and egg, mingles with the enticing scent of nasi impit served with aromatic curries and flaky roti canai.
The simplest way to get here is to hop on the Kelana Jaya LRT line and disembark at Kampung Baru station. From there, a short walk down bustling side streets leads you straight to Jalan Raja Alang, where the bazaar comes alive at sunset. For those who prefer a more direct approach, taxis and rideshares are plentiful throughout the city and can drop you right at the edge of Kampung Baru. If you're navigating by bus, several routes serve this historic neighbourhood - just check local transit maps for the best option.
