The Johor Elephant Sanctuary (JES) in Kota Tinggi, set to open in 2025, aims to provide a secure habitat for around 30 elephants, initially housing 15. Besides being a refuge for elephants, it's designed as a tourist attraction, promoting educational interactions between visitors and wildlife. The sanctuary will also play a role in mitigating human-elephant conflicts in the region, exacerbated by urbanization and deforestation. Efforts like electric fences have been implemented to manage these conflicts, emphasizing a balanced approach to improving both wildlife and community well-being.
