About

Lubuk Bangku takes its name from a kampung in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra, a region celebrated as a food haven in the heart of Minangkabau country. Founded by Kak Ida and her family, who returned to her passion for cooking after a 26-year career in banking, this hidden gem specialises in traditional Negeri Sembilan and Padang-style cuisine using heritage recipes passed down through generations from Kuala Pilah.

The restaurant was established to bring authentic Malay village cuisine to city dwellers, particularly those who miss the distinctive flavours of Negeri Sembilan dishes. Operating under Kay E Kitchen, Lubuk Bangku has become one of the most respected destinations for Minang and Negeri Sembilan food in Klang Valley, known for maintaining strict adherence to traditional cooking methods while adding subtle modern touches to suit contemporary tastes.
The signature dish features Daging Salai that is meticulously smoked for 2 hours daily, with only 40kg produced each day to ensure quality and authenticity. The smoked beef is slow-cooked in a cauldron over charcoal and coconut husks, creating tender slices infused with a distinctive smoky aroma. The beef pairs perfectly with the rich, creamy masak lemak gravy made from a closely guarded family recipe that delivers the authentic taste of Negeri Sembilan without requiring a trip to the state itself.

The menu showcases iconic specialities including gulai lemak daging salai, the restaurant's star attraction featuring smoky beef in coconut gravy, sambal terong balado known for its perfect balance of sweet, savoury, and spicy notes with a lemak finish and notably non-oily texture, ayam kampung goreng fried in batches throughout the day for maximum freshness with juicy, tender meat, and rotating daily selections such as keli goreng (fried catfish), asam pedas ikan pari (stingray in tangy spicy gravy), ketam masak lemak (crab in coconut curry), masak lemak labu (pumpkin in coconut gravy), and telur masak kicap (eggs in sweet soy sauce).

The cabin-style bungalow setting creates a warm, nostalgic atmosphere that transports diners back to a traditional Malay kampung. Dishes are served on vintage plates that evoke memories of grandmother's cooking, making it a favourite among those seeking genuine Negeri Sembilan home-style cooking in the city. Located in the residential housing estate of Lengkok Abdullah Bangsar, an area many rarely venture into, the restaurant remains a beloved hidden gem for those in the know.

Due to limited seating and high demand, the restaurant fills up quickly during lunch hours. The sambal terong balado typically sells out by 1:00 PM, and most popular dishes are gone by 1:30 PM, so early arrival is essential for the best selection. The menu changes daily to offer variety and ensure freshness, though signature dishes like gulai lemak daging salai and ayam kampung goreng are regularly available.
