Set within a beautifully restored Mughal-Islamic building near Dataran Merdeka, the museum offers an immersive exploration of the country’s textile traditions — from royal garments to village weaves.
The museum’s extensive collection reveals the artistry behind Malaysia’s most iconic fabrics, including the luxurious songket woven with gold threads, the hand-drawn batik created using the canting, and the intricate tenun styles such as Tenun Pahang Diraja, Tenun Terengganu, Tenun Sarawak, and the Iban Pua Kumbu. Together, these pieces highlight centuries of cultural exchange, craftsmanship, and identity expressed through fabric.
Inside, visitors can explore four main galleries — Pohon Budi, Pelangi, Teluk Berantai, and Ratna Sari — each offering a different perspective on Malaysia’s textile evolution. The exhibits cover traditional weaving, dyeing, embroidery, and stamping techniques, as well as the materials, motifs, and meanings woven into every design.
Beyond static displays, the museum also hosts interactive workshops and live demonstrations, where visitors can experience hands-on batik painting, weaving, and dyeing processes.
