Perdana Botanical Garden is a 226-acre public park in Kuala Lumpur's Lake Gardens precinct, established in 1888 during the British colonial era under its original name, Lake Gardens. It is managed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and sits near the National Mosque, Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, and KL Railway Station.
The grounds date to one of the city's earliest planned green spaces, later renamed Perdana Botanical Garden. Themed sections built up over the decades include the Hibiscus Garden, showcasing Malaysia's national flower; the Orchid Garden, holding tropical orchid species and hybrids; and the Palm Garden and Cactus Garden, contrasting tropical palms against arid-climate succulents.
Entry to the botanical sections, lakes, and walking paths is free, open 5:30 AM–10:00 PM daily and to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Two separately ticketed attractions sit within the grounds: Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, a free-flight aviary with over 3,000 birds from 200 species, and a Butterfly Park. Paved paths and ramps run throughout for wheelchair access.
A visit to the free botanical grounds and Deer Park typically takes about two hours; visitors adding the Bird Park or Butterfly Park should budget extra time and separate admission for each.
